About the founder
I founded Rugpublic after growing up and working in the rug trade for almost 40 years. I’ve traveled the world’s bazaars on rug buying trips, worked with weavers to make bespoke rugs, and watched trends in rug design from the east to the west coast.
The one thing I’ve always been fascinated by, is how much every person I come across loves owning or dreaming of buying beautiful hand-made rugs. The rug is still the treasure of every person’s home – even in our contemporary times, this unique item is still cherished, and sought after.
For me, there's real joy in bringing rug, and owner together: I like to think that I'm a rug matchmaker. If we don't have the right rug for you, I'm willing to find it, or better yet, work with you to make it!

it’s a pleasure to know that this slow, painstaking craft still carries value in the hearts of the modern person. Rugpublic was founded because I want to continue to help people find these treasures. Our mission is to provide these fine rugs, at the best prices, with the friendliest customer service. My earliest memories of my father, Ali, were of his trips abroad, where he would travel across the globe for months at a time, looking for these treasures to bring back to his shop, The Golden Horn, in Seattle. He was always of the mindset that our duty as patrons of the rug arts, were to find the treasures at the source, and in the process, provide our customers the best value, saving them hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars. .

We have new rugs coming in every month, and we have ready looms in India for making custom designs for every stretch of the imagination. We work directly on the ground in India, Pakistan and Turkey, making sure your rugs aren’t marked up by wholesale middlemen. Our focus is on hand-knotted wool rugs, but we have an extensive collection of hand-woven vintage kilims, hand-loomed rugs and flatweaves, and a growing selection of broadloom carpets, as well as a number of beautiful decorative pillows.
